All of our "Luxury Bedding" mattresses, futons, pillows, comforters, and mattress toppers contain pure wool and cotton organically grown and harvested in the United States, keeping Americans working. Cotton grown in industrialized countries is saturated with pesticides and herbicides and absorbs all the chemicals that modern fertilizers deposit in the soil. It may be full of impurities, oil, leaves, and dirt. The cotton we use is cultivated in the traditional co-operative manner. It is grown organically without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or defoliants to fertilize the crop, control plant growth or fight pests. No synthetic chemicals are used to strip the leaves during the manufacturing process. When you see "Organic" from countries like China, what does this tell you? This statement is not a guarantee of organic standards. All the cotton used in our fabric is clean, pure, and organic. It is woven to very high standards into the finest organic fabric made in American mills. The ECO-Pure Wool in our products comes exclusively from the United States. The cross breed of sheep that gives us our unique ECO-Pure Wool, produces wool of unrivalled quality. Our patented process uses wool with a crimped fiber that gives it the unique loft. It is especially well suited to sleep products because of its superior durability, insulation, and moisture regulation. Our ECO-Pure Wool is harvested from a sustainable source without detriment or harm to the animal. Each sheep is shorn every spring producing about 11lbs of high quality wool. Breeds of sheep with long straight-fibered wool such as Leicester, Merino, Cotsworth, and Coop worth, are generally used for spinning and produce products that are softer and flatter. These products would have a shorter life and would loose their loft quickly. The sheep that produce our wool are raised organically. Using craftsmanship based on experience and environmental sensibility, the raw fleece is processed without the use of any dyes or bleaches. Bleached wool contains toxic compounds including highly toxic dioxin, something we all can do without. The wool is cleaned using a unique chemical free process that produces exceptionally clean wool. All wool used in Surround Sleep Systems products must abide by strict requirements to be considered for use. In this way we are able to ensure the purity of our finished product. Surround Sleep Systems ECO-Pure Wool must be free of any sort of plastic, baling twine, and mothballs. Fleece must be well skirted so that there is no mat of hay, timothy heads, burrs, belly hair, manure, etc. Usual processes such as; (1) Carbonizing, a process which uses carbonic acid to dissolve chaff, (2) Shrink proofing, (3) Chemical scale removal, and (4) Moth proofing are not allowed. Any process that uses chemicals or produces toxins in the wool is strictly forbidden. Finished batting can only be washed with vegetable based soaps without chemical pesticides. All fiber lubrication, static control, or wetting agents are vegetable based and petroleum free. Finally the wool must be stored in an unscented atmosphere.
